Job search reality

Why am I not getting interviews?

You apply, you wait, you hear nothing. It's rarely about being underqualified — most rejections happen before a recruiter has even read your CV. Here's what's actually happening behind the scenes, and what you can do about it.

Most CVs are filtered before a human sees them

Large employers receive hundreds — sometimes thousands — of applications per role. To make that volume manageable, almost every mid-size and enterprise company now uses an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to parse, score, and rank incoming resumes. Recruiters typically only review candidates who clear an internal threshold inside that system.

That means the first audience for your CV isn't a human. It's a parser looking for specific signals: the right job title, the right keywords from the description, the right structure, and a layout it can read without errors. If those signals are weak, your application sinks in the ranking — even when you're a strong fit on paper.

The most common reasons qualified candidates get ignored

  • Job title mismatch. Your CV says "Growth Lead" but the role is titled "Senior Marketing Manager." The system doesn't connect them.
  • Missing keywords from the job description. The skills are in your head and your past projects, but not on the page in the exact phrasing the system is searching for.
  • Formatting that breaks the parser. Multi-column layouts, text inside graphics, tables, and unusual fonts often come through as garbled text or get skipped entirely.
  • One generic CV sent to every role. A CV that isn't tailored to the specific job almost always loses to one that is — even when the untailored candidate has more experience.
  • Recruiter searches you don't appear in. Recruiters also actively search candidate databases. If your CV doesn't contain the terms they search for, you simply don't show up.

What actually changes the outcome

The fix isn't writing a longer CV or adding more achievements. It's making sure the CV you already have is readable and findable by the systems gating the interview. That means aligning your titles and keywords to each specific job description, using a clean single-column structure, and surfacing the experience you do have in the language the role uses.

CVLYTIQ does this analysis for you. Paste a job description, upload your CV, and you'll see exactly which keywords are missing, where the formatting breaks, and how your CV is likely scoring against the role.
